California BBS Continuing Education requirements

What courses do I need to be a supervisor?

NEW BBS regulations for beginning supervisors went into effect January 1 2022. Supervisors of AMFTs and trainees, ASWs and APCCs are now required to complete 15 hours of supervision training before starting the supervision. All supervisors are now required to take 6 hours of supervision training with each license renewal.

The 15 hours can be taken as multiple courses as long as they total  to a minimum of 15 hours. You may take 3 courses at supervisionCEU.com, making sure to include Law, Ethics & Supervision: The Use of Authority as one of the three, to meet the BBS requirement.

Can courses be applied to the BBS Law and Ethics requirement?

Yes, several courses at supervisionCEU.com may be used to meet the BBS Law and Ethics requirement. They have a red icon and are clearly labeled on the home page. Licensed therapists must take 6 hours of legal/ethical training with each two year license renewal.

Are supervisionCEU.com courses approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences?

As of July 2017 the BBS no longer approves continuing education providers. Instead, they approve Continuing Education Approval Agencies to certify providers. SupervisionCEU.com is certified through CAMFT, Continuing Education Provider #56659, to provide courses that meet the BBS continuing education requirements.

If I am licensed in a state other than California can I use supervisionCEU.com to meet my continuing education requirements?

SupervisionCEU.com provides courses that are approved to meet California BBS continuing education requirements. However, if you are licensed in another state you can contact your state licensing Board and ask if they will accept continuing education courses from a California BBS approved provider.

How do I register to take a course?

You will be prompted to register after choosing your course and clicking on “Add to cart”. You will have one year to complete your course. 

How do I purchase a course if I am a new customer?

Choose your course and click “Add to cart” Then follow the prompts to create a Username and Password. 

How do I purchase a course if I am a returning customer?

Log in and click on Courses offered. Then select the course you would like to purchase and click “Add to cart”. You may also add your course to the cart and then log in after. Click on “Proceed to checkout” and complete the required fields. Choose your payment preference. Make sure to click on your agreement to website terms and conditions (which you can read by clicking the link). Complete the required information and click on “Pay now.”

You will see a message saying that you will be directed to the My courses page in several seconds. Beneath the course icon and name you will see a green Start button, click there to begin.

I can’t log in, what should I do?

You will not be able to log in if you are not a registered customer. Once you purchase your course and register you will be able to log in in using your username and password (at least 8 -12 characters, one uppercase letter, a number and a special character (Example, %#!&).You will be prompted to create a strong password.

You will not be able to log in if you enter an incorrect password more than 3 times. We keep security very tight on the website.

If you do not remember your password it is best to click on “forgot your password?” sooner rather than later and a password token will be sent to the email address you provide. Occasionally firewalls will interfere with this function. Please email us through the Contact us link if you need assistance with your password and we will help you gain access.

Will a receipt be sent to my email account?

Yes, you will receive a purchase confirmation at the email address you entered during registration. This is your receipt. If you do not receive an email check your spam/junk file and put supervisionCEU.com on your safe sender list. Also, check your profile by clicking the “My account” tab to make sure your account reflects your preferred email address.

What is the BEST TIP for navigating the website after purchasing?

Go to the Dashboard. From there you can gain access to offered courses, previous orders and account details. In Account details you can change your profile information including your email address and password. 

Where do I find my course?

After purchase if you are having trouble finding your course go to the Dashboard and click on” My courses”. If you need assistance please email us through the Contact us page.

Can I print a hard copy of the course materials?

Yes. After your purchase the first page of the course gives you the option to download a copy of the course as a PDF which you can print and/or save to your computer. 

How do I take the test?

The first page of the course materials gives you the option to print out the test questions to use as a study guide as you read the course materials. You will take the exam online. On the page with the blue numbered icons, click on the exam link. You can retake the exam as many times as you need at no extra cost. Exams are not timed. 70% is the required score to pass the test. You have one year from purchase to complete your course.

How do I get my certificate?

After passing the test you will be prompted to retrieve your CEU certificate. You can then save and print it for your records. In addition, a PDF of your completed certificate will be emailed to you. SupervisionCEU will save your certificates for four years as required by the BBS.
