California BBS Continuing Education requirements

What courses do I need to be a supervisor?

The BBS requires supervisors of unlicensed MFTs and PCCs to obtain 6 hours of supervision training with each two year license renewal. Supervisors of ASWs are required to have 15 hours of supervision training before the commencement of supervision. The supervisee’s scope of practice determines the appropriate requirement not your license.For example, if you are a LMFT supervising an ASW you will need 15 hours of supervision training.

Can courses be applied to the BBS Law and Ethics requirement?

Yes, several courses at may be used to meet the BBS Law and Ethics requirement. They have a red icon and are clearly labeled on the home page. Licensed therapists must take 6 hours of legal/ethical training with each two year license renewal.

Are courses approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences?

Yes. As of July 2017 the BBS no longer approves continuing education providers. Instead, they approve Continuing Education Approval Agencies to certify providers. is certified through CAMFT to provide courses that meet the BBS continuing education requirements. CE Provider #56659

If I am licensed in a state other than California can I use to meet my continuing education requirements? provides courses that are approved to meet California BBS continuing education requirements. However, if you are licensed in another state you can contact your state licensing Board and ask if they will accept continuing education courses from a California BBS approved provider.

How do I register to take a course?

You will be prompted to register after choosing your course and clicking on “Add to cart”.

How do I purchase a course if I am a new customer?

-You will need to purchase your course before registering. Select your course and click “Add to cart”

-You will see your course in the shopping cart. Click “create an account”

-Now is the time to register, complete each box

-Create your password-At least 8 characters, one upper case letter, a number and a special character (Example, %&$!)

-Click “I’m not a robot”

-After completing, click “finish” at the bottom right of your screen

-Choose your payment preference and click “pay now”

How do I purchase a course if I am a returning customer?

Select the course you would like to purchase and click “Add to cart”. You will be prompted to log in with your username (most often your email address) and your password. If you do not remember your password click on “forgot your password?” and a password token will be sent to the email address you have provided.  Log in and then continue with your payment choice.

I can’t log in, what should I do?

You will not be able to log in if you are not a registered customer. Once you purchase your course and register you will be able to log in in using your username and password (at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, a number and a special character (Example, %#!&).

You will not be able to log in if you enter an incorrect password more than 3 times. We keep security very tight on the website. You will receive a message asking you to please contact us so we can help you gain access.

If you do not remember your password it is best to click on “forgot your password?” sooner rather than later and a password token will be sent to the email address you provide.

Will a receipt be sent to my email account?

Yes, you will receive a purchase confirmation at the email address you entered during registration. This is your receipt. If you do not receive an email check your spam/junk file and put on your safe sender list. Also, check your profile by clicking the “My account” tab to make sure your account reflects your preferred email address.

What is the BEST TIP for navigating the website after purchasing?

The “My courses” box is the “go to” place to get access to your course, the exam, the evaluation and your CEU certificate. Click on the name of your course in this box and you will go to a page with numbered blue icons. From there you can easily find what you need.

Where do I find my course?

After purchase you will see the title of your course in the “My courses” box. Click on the course title and you will see a page with blue numbered icons. Click on “Course materials” next to the #1 blue icon to begin reading your course.

It may take a moment for the course to appear in the “My courses” box. If it doesn’t show up exit the website and log in again. You should see it then. If there is a problem please contact us.

Can I print a hard copy of the course materials?

Yes. After your purchase is complete click on the “My courses” box and then click on the title of your course.  Click on “Course materials”. The course is provided in a PDF format which you can save to your computer and/or print a hard copy.

How do I take the test?

The first page of the course materials gives you the option (and recommendation) to print out the test questions to use as a study guide as you read the course. You will take the exam online. When you are ready to take the exam go to the “My courses” box and click on the title of your course. On the page with the blue numbered icons, click on the #2 exam link. You can retake the exam as many times as you need at no extra cost. Exams are not timed. 70% is the required score to pass the test. You will be provided feedback on correct and inocrrect exam answers.

How do I get my certificate?

After passing the test you will be prompted to retrieve your CEU certificate. You can then save and print it for your records. SupervisionCEU will save your certificates for four years as required by the BBS. You can return to the certificate page by clicking on the name of your course in the “My courses” box and then on the page with the numbered blue icons, click on "course certificate".
